When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced the happy news that they were expecting a baby yesterday, there was one very important person missing from the celebrations.
Of course, Princess Diana, Harrys late mother, was not there to share in the exciting time for the couple.
But it seems the Duchess of Sussex was keen to include the mother-in-law she never met in the special moment, with a touching tribute.
As the Duke and Duchess kicked off their royal tour of Australia, Meghan stepped out – showing off the tiniest hint of a baby bump – in a gorgeous white Karen Gee dress.
However, it was in her jewellery collection where eagle-eyed fans noticed the sweet reference to the late Princess of Wales.
Meghan Markle was wearing a pair of butterfly earrings that actually belonged to Princess Diana, and came from her personal, private jewellery collection.
Diana originally wore the stunning earrings on a trip to Canada in 1986, just over a year after giving birth to Prince Harry.
Given that the Duke and Duchess trip down under is so high-profile, its likely no coincidence that Meghan chose to wore the special piece of family jewellery on the day she and Harry announced that they were expecting. How lovely!
But that wasnt the only tribute to the late Princess. During her first day of engagements in Aus, Meghan also wore a bold gold bracelet, that is also believed to have been an heirloom passed down by Diana.
Before Dianas passing, it is thought that she explicitly stated her wishes that her jewellery collection be passed down to her sons, and – in time – their wives.
According to the Daily Mail, she wrote, “I would like you to allocate all my jewellery to the share to be held by my sons, so that their wives may, in due course, have it or use it.”
So it seems Meghan was keen to honour that wish on what was surely a special day for the couple.
Its not the first time Meghan Markle has worn jewellery that belonged to the late Princess either. On her wedding day, she paid tribute to Harrys mum by wearing an aquamarine ring Diana used to wear – making sure she was with them on their big day.
