If youre travelling abroad this December, there will a number of festive goodies you might want to carry in your bags.

It could be presents for your loved ones or even Christmas crackers for the dinner table.

But you must double check the rules before setting off as some airlines consider the festive items to be dangerous.

In fact, bringing a pack of Christmas crackers onboard could be considered as carrying explosives which could land you in serious trouble.

Airlines who allow you to bring crackers have strict rules. For example the boxes must be made by a commercial manufacturer and be sealed.

And travelling with crackers means you must be mindful of whats inside them, as some contain scissors or screwdrivers.

You can check the details on the back of the box and find out what is expected in each cracker.

To be absolutely certain youre not breaking any laws, its best to check with the airlines rules and regulations before packing.

If youre flying with easyJet, you can bring up to two boxes per person, provided they are in their original packaging.

As for British Airways, passengers are only allowed to pack the crackers in their checked bags.

According to Ryanairs website, the low budget airline will not be allowing the items in their checked or cabin bags as theyre considered to be dangerous goods.

Thomas Cook is allowing crackers in hold luggage only, but if youre flying to the US you wont be allowed any at all.

Its not only airlines you must be wary of, taking Christmas crackers through security can also land you trouble.

Heathrow and Gatwick both allow one sealed box of crackers through security, providing youve checked with the airline.

But airports such as Manchester, Liverpool and East Midlands forbid you to bring crackers through security in hand luggage, although they are allowed in checked bags.
