Share market update: Bank shares surge; IDFC Bank climbs nearly 3%

NEW DELHI: Bank shares were trading in a positive terrain with the Nifty Bank index up 0.83 per cent at 26,865.6 on Thursday.

Shares of IDFC Bank (up 2.93 per cent), IndusInd Bank (up 2.46 per cent), Federal Bank (up 2.44 per cent) and State Bank of India (up 1.72 per cent) were trading with gains.

Punjab National Bank (up 1.41 per cent), Kotak Mahindra Bank (up 1.04 per cent), HDFC Bank (up 0.72 per cent) and RBL Bank (up 0.66 per cent) too were trading higher.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was up 43.90 points at 10,781.5 while the BSE Sensex was up 137.83 points at 35,916.9.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 31 were trading in the green, while 19 were in the red.

Shares of YES Bank, SBI, Sun Pharma, ICICI Bank, Indiabulls Housing Finance, Indian Oil Corp, Ashok Leyland, BEL, Tata Motors, Bank of Baroda and ITC were among the most traded shares on the NSE.
