This Mornings Eamonn Holmes has managed to land himself in hot water with some ITV viewers following a tongue-in-cheek comment to wife Ruth Langsford.
The 59-year-old TV host left fans gobsmacked after appearing to call his wife of almost nine years “fat”.
Speaking on todays edition of the hit breakfast show, the married duo discussed healthy resolutions for the new year.
Revealing his wife had been using a dietary tracking app, Eamonn said: “Ruth has done the typical trap where she said lose weight – obviously.
“Shes got one of these app things that told her how many calories shes restricted to, bearing in mind her bulk, how much intake she can have a day.”
After 58-year-old Ruth revealed that she was only supposed to consume 1,200 calories a day due to her “bulk, age and height”, Eamonn gave a pretty controversial response.
“Thats because youre very fat, thats why,” he chimed in.
Brushing off the comment, Ruth then scalded her husband: “Oh my goodness, youre going to get stop being mean to your wife.”
Digging himself a deeper hole, the TV personality responded to Ruth: “Im only stating the facts.”
Whilst the duo managed to shake off the fiasco and continue hosting the show, some viewers have been left slightly unimpressed…
Calling Eamonn out on the potentially hurtful jibe, one user shared: “Eamonn I cant believe you called Ruthie fat! She is lovely and I think you and I both know you are punching above your weight!”
“Eamon only managed to last 4 minutes before making a derogatory comment to Ruth,” added another.
However, others have defended the host.
One user posted: “@EamonnHolmes you are lucky @RuthieeL loves you and shes a lovely lady tut tut …. happy new year to you both!!!”
