Stay on top of your Christmas indulgence with our quick festive detox…all it takes is a few minutes

Have you been putting festive partying at the top of your to-do list? It might be time for a mini festive detox. From overdoing it with the mince pies to knocking back too much fizz, not to mention missing out on sleep, the festive season certainly puts your body under strain. This can affect your immune system, so you feel rundown, sluggish, you look pale and are more prone to coughs and colds – at the very worst time. But that doesnt mean you have to cut back on the fun. Instead, cheat your way to a healthier body with a daily festive-detox now – to support your system to cope with all the Christmas parties and late nights – and throughout January. Try this every morning…

1 Start the day with hot vinegar

Add 2tsp apple cider vinegar to a mug of warm water and drink. It can help stimulate the circulation and boost detoxification in the liver. Plus, it helps balance blood sugar and helps control your appetite through the morning.

2 Brush up

Use a body brush on dry skin in long, sweeping strokes all over your body, starting from your feet and working towards your heart. It helps boost your circulation and lymphatic system, to help remove toxins from your body. A bonus is that it also sweeps away dead skin cells, leaving skin smooth.

3 Have an Epsom salts bath

Switch your morning shower for this. Epsom salts are rich in sulphate and magnesium to help flush out toxins, beat bloating and ease muscle pain. You can grab a tub at any chemist – just throw a couple of handfuls into a warm bath. Your pores will be open after the skin brushing, intensifying the benefits. A detox while you relax – sounds heavenly to us!

4 Whizz up a cleansing breakfast smoothie

Blitz an apple, the juice of one lemon, a handful of kale, one celery stick and 1tbsp chia seeds, along with half a teaspoon of cinnamon and a glass of water. These vitamin-rich, cleansing ingredients will help you wake up your digestion, push out the nasties and rehydrate you.

5 Take a liver boosting supplement

Your liver is a key detoxifier and the herb milk thistle can support it. Try Natures Garden Milk Thistle, £10.29 for 30 capsules, hollandandbarrett.com.
