A new Channel 5 documentary has seen royal experts shed light on the apparent rivalry between Princess Diana and Sarah Ferguson…
According to the new film, which was aired at the weekend, Prince Charles once asked Princess Diana why she couldnt be more like Sarah Ferguson.
The documentary, called Royals at War, saw royal experts talking about the apparent rivalry between Diana and Sarah, who is affectionately known to the British public as Fergie.
Princess Diana married Prince Charles back in 1981 but, as everyone knows, their infamously turbulent marriage started to break down shortly before Prince Harry arrived in 1984.
Meanwhile, Sarah Ferguson married into the royal family when she wed Prince Andrew in 1986, earning her the title Duchess of York.
According to the Channel 5 programme the women were firm friends at first, but it wasnt long before cracks started to show in their friendship.
According to royal author Katie Nicholl the tensions between Diana and Sarah seemed from within the royal family… “There were examples of Charles apparently saying to Diana, Why cant you be more like Fergie?'”
According to the experts talking on the documentary, Diana apparently came to envy Fergies ability to throw herself into royal life and enjoy it…
Biographer Andrew Morton revealed, “Diana looked at Fergie and thought, How on earth does she do it? Shes carriage-driving with Prince Phillip, shes out shooting with Prince Charles, shes just a bundle of energy… Diana got quite jealous of her.”
