In May, Camille and Jean shared a picture of themselves hanging out of a train carriage

Pictures of them in Ella, Sri Lanka soon went viral, with many branding the move “dangerous” and “foolish”.

One responder added: “How desperate for Instagram likes you have to be to risk your lives like that?!

“First, you NEVER open the door of a moving train (Im surprised it was even possible, there should be locking mechanism so that the conductor unlocks the door once the train has fully stopped).

“Second, you NEVER lean out of a moving train.

“For gods sake, basic train safety rules!

“And posting pics like this just encourage other fools to try. Very very foolish.”

Even though members of the public condemned the railway image, the couple have stood by it.

Speaking to The Cut, Camille said: “This train ride is very famous in Sri Lanka, and we had seen many pictures on social media of people hanging out of the doors, so we knew we wanted to try this and prepared for it in advance.

'When we took the picture, the train was moving at a walking speed and the edge was not deep at all.

“We would never risk our lives or our health to get a good picture.

“We care too much for each other for that.”
