A man has been jailed for 11 years after attacking his ex-girlfriend who left her feeling worthless.
David Ingrams victim told Newcastle Crown Court about the devastating effect he had on her life, culminating in having her face held against an oven hob.
His violence against her started after she gave birth to their child and he became increasingly jealous, accusing her of being unfaithful.
Ingram called her abusive names in front of another son who he tried to coerce into joining in with the abuse. He only stopped when a neighbour at the home in Newcastle intervened.
She said: I felt trapped in a hole I couldnt get out of. It made me feel worthless and like I was not good enough, no matter what I did.
I now feel like a failure for allowing that kind of abuse to happen when my children were around.
I cant believe he would want to hurt me like that and Im scared he might come and hurt me if he gets out. Im moving away to make sure my family and children are safe.

I suffered depression before this and now I feel 10 times worse but Im putting on a brave face for my children.
I have nightmares about what he did, I wake up in a panic and struggling.
I miss being the person I was before this and Im scared to get involved in another relationship in case they are like him. I feel I cant trust anyone again.
During the burglary, which he carried out with another man, Ingram wore a balaclava and a substance – believed to be amonia – was sprayed.
The court heard Ingram carried out the offences in a jealous rage.
Judge Julie Clemitson told him: As a result you assaulted her twice, the first time by holding her face at an electric hob until she confessed to what you wanted her to confess to.
Then you punched her to the head, resulting in bruising or a graze to the side of her head.
That offence was cruel, almost sadistic, an assault designed to cause her more fear than injury.
Judge Clemitson added: Against that background you committed the more serious offence of aggravated burglary.
