A Metropolitan Police inspector who works as a protection officer for the royal family has been arrested on suspicion of rape and stalking.
The royalty and specialist protection command officer is being investigated after he was arrested by Sussex Police on 22 August.
Scotland Yard said the allegations have no relation to the officers job.
The officer, who has been released on bail, has been protecting a senior royal for a number of years, according to The Sun.
A source told the newspaper: The member of the Royal Family was shocked to hear about this protection officers arrest.
The officer is a model of professionalism and has shown the utmost integrity in his duties.
In a statement, the Met said: We can confirm a serving Metropolitan Police officer has been arrested on suspicion of rape and stalking involving serious alarm or distress.
