The Prime Minister has given a guarantee that the 21 Brexit rebels who defied the Tory whip will not be able to return to the party, a Conservative MP has said.
Daniel Kawczynski was speaking after the Prime Minister addressed the 1922 Committee of backbench Tory MPs.
He said: I pleaded with the Prime Minister not to restore the whip to any Conservative Member of Parliament who has undermined him in these negotiations with the European Union and hes given me an assurance that the whip will not be restored.
These people cannot stand for the Conservative Party again.
Pressed on what the Prime Minister said to him, Mr Kawczynski said: He gave me a guarantee.
The strong stance is said to be in stark contrast to the opinion of many Tory MPs with Mr Kawcynski conceding the majority wanted to see the whip restored to the rebels.
