A conman who preyed on the tragic deaths of the Grenfell Tower inferno has been jailed for 42 months.

Pharmacist technician Daniel Steventon, 37, pretended he was flat sharing with a tenant who died in the fire that killed 72 people in order to trouser £75,285 intended for genuine victims, Isleworth Crown Court heard.

Steventon was put up in the Mercure Kensington Hotel with all costs paid for by Kensington and Chelsea council.

He received £54,099 in hotel costs, £14,310 food allowance and £6,876 in bank payments between August 2017 and May 2018.

Steventon, of Brondesbury Villas, Kilburn, northwest London, admitted fraud by false representation.
