A pair of climate change activists failed in their plot to shut down Heathrow Airport due to a technical glitch with a drone.

At around 3am this morning, protest group Heathrow Pause shared a live stream on Twitter showing two people struggling to get the device airborne.

The video shows the drones green and red lights flashing as the two men say they are having some trouble.

Heathrow Pause tweeted to say the airport was using signal jamming to frustrate early flights.

Two men were detained by police in the perimeter of the airport on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a public nuisance around 6am.

It brings the total number of arrests made since yesterday afternoon to nine.

Four men and three women, all aged between their 20s and 50s, were detained on suspicion of conspiracy to commit a public nuisance.

Planes started landing at the airport at 5am this morning as usual but a large police presence remains.

Scotland Yard said a dispersal order had been put in place until 4.30am on Sunday to to prevent criminal activity which poses a significant safety and security risk to the airport.

One of the suspects was Extinction Rebellion co-founder Roger Halllam, who was filmed being handcuffed along with another activist in a café in Bethnal Green, east London.

Despite this, Heathrow Pause said it still wanted to press on with its plan to fly drones in the 5km exclusion zone.
