Swingball got the better of Scottish first minister Nicola Sturgeon this weekend after she was smashed in the head by her opponent.

Its a well known danger of the game and aficionados will sympathise with the politician if theyve ever taken on the innocent garden game against a sore losing sibling.

What was supposed to be a light-hearted moment with her former SNP colleague Anne McLaughlin soon turned painful for Ms Sturgeon.

While out canvassing in Glasgow the women decided to have a knock about of the swingball in front of a watching crowd.

But while comfortable delivering knock-out blows in Westminster and at Holyrood, it seems Ms Sturgeon was unprepared for Ms McLaughlins power in the swingball arena.

Footage captured the moment the tennis ball smashed straight into her head before she decided it was a day.
