A 12-year-old boy has died after being electrocuted on railway lines near Liverpool.
Police were called to a track in Bootle shortly after 7pm on Monday – as were an ambulance and rapid response vehicle.
But the youngster, named locally as James, was pronounced dead at the scene.
His injuries were "consistent with electrocution" and the incident is not being treated as suspicious, a British Transport Police spokeswoman said.
The youngster's family are being supported by family liaison officers.

Neighbour Sonia Melton said her 11-year-old son was friends with the boy who died.
The 33-year-old added: "We're in bits, my heart goes out to his mum.

"He was a lovely kid – they're all lovely kids round here. My son used to play out with him."
Flowers have been left at railings beside the train tracks.
One bunch carried the message: "Shine bright like a diamond. You was the happiest little boy. You will be missed by your girlfriend Ellie."
