BRITONS reacted furiously following alleged plans to stop people over 70 from leaving their homes under lockdown plans.
The British Medical Association and the Royal College of CPs issued a statement this weekend insisting a person’s age should not determine whether they are at high risk or not. Under current NHS plan, those aged over 70 are deemed as being at high risk of contracting COVID-19. The two groups however have stated a blanket ban on any section of the population would be unacceptable.

Following that, former Pensions ministers, Baroness Ros Altmann launched a scathing Government on any alleged plans to stop over-70s from leaving their homes.
In agreement, Express readers have issued their outrage at any potential plan.
Glyn Dykes said: “Funny how the older person is doing what they are asked and staying in yet get the blame.
“And what about the selfish, arrogant, ‘I can do what I want, you can’t stop me’ millennials.”
Alison Mably said: “Why are the old despised in UK?
“I remember as a child we respected our elders.
“Narcissistic society Is what we live in all about being young.”
Jacki Page added: “Most of us elderly do not need a blanket ban to have the sense to keep ourselves safe, it’s the younger ones who think invincible and don’t care who they might infect the Government need to worry about.
A fourth person said: “It’s about protecting the vulnerable not punishing the over 70s and should include the vulnerable under the seventies as well.”
Speaking on Sky News’ Ridge on Sunday, Baroness Altmann stated the elderly may not even adhere to any new restrictive measure.
She said: “If they are fit and healthy and need to get out for their own physical health then the idea that the government will tell them you are under house arrest while everybody else is out, and force them into solitary confinement.
“I think they wouldnt accept it.”
Although the NHS has labelled those over 70 as at risk, Health Secretary said there was no current blanket ban the age group.
Speaking today, Minister for the Cabinet Office, Michael Gove revealed Boris Johnson will announce plans to take the UK out of the lockdown next week.
It is unclear which measures may be lifted but Mr Gove insisted the departure from the lockdown would be a phased process.
Referencing First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon’s previous comments he warned any approach would not be like “flicking a switch”.
He said: “A phased approach is one which allows us to monitor the impact that those changes are having on public health.
“And – if necessary, in a specific and localised way – that means that we can pause or even reintroduce those restrictions that might be required in order to deal with localised outbreaks.”
At the time of writing, the UK has registered 186,599 cases with 28,446 deaths.
