TURKEY holidays are a much-loved option among many British travellers. In 2019, British nationals made over 2.5 million visits to Turkey. Now the country has issued a new update concerning flights. Does this mean you can now go on holiday to Turkey?

Turkey holidays offer plenty to tourists thanks to its sun, sea and sand as well as rich history and famous cuisine. Sadly, British holidaymakers have been left unable to travel to their favourite destinations due to coronavirus this year. Turkey is currently in the top ten most-affected countries by the virus.

There are a total of 148,067 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Turkey.

Sadly there have been 4,096 deaths in the country.

Many people have been left wondering when they will be able to travel again.

A number of countries have recently begun easing strict lockdowns.

The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) updated their travel advice for Turkey this weekend.

Does this mean Turkey is opening up its borders to tourists?

While the latest update concerns flights, unfortunately, there is still no sign of when travellers will be allowed back in.

“The Turkish Government has implemented a ban on international flights until 1 June,” said the FCO.

“Normal, scheduled international flights will not resume until the ban is lifted.

“At present there is no information about how soon airlines will resume their operations after it is lifted.

“Occasional ad hoc flights are still operating.”

The latest government updates concern flight options out of Turkey.

“SunExpress is operating flights from Ankara, Antalya and Izmir to Dusseldorf and Frankfurt on 20 and 21 May and from Adana to Dusseldorf on 21 May,” said the FCO.

“Onward flights are available on 21 May to London Heathrow with Eurowings from Dusseldorf and Lufthansa from Frankfurt.

“An onward flight is also available to Manchester from Dusseldorf on 22 May with Eurowings.

“This is suitable to connect if flying from Adana on 21 May.”

The FCO update continued: “Belavia Airlines are operating flights twice a week from Istanbul to London Gatwick, via Minsk.”

Additionally, “SunExpress is operating weekly flights from Konya to Copenhagen commencing on Wednesday 3 June.

“Onward flights are available the same day to London Heathrow, Manchester and Dublin with Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS).”

Britons are currently unable to undertake anything but essential travel.

The COVID-19 Exceptional Travel Advisory Notice states: “As countries respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, including travel and border restrictions, the FCO advises British nationals against all but essential international travel. Any country or area may restrict travel without notice.

“If you live in the UK and are currently travelling abroad, you are strongly advised to return now, where and while there are still commercial routes available. Many airlines are suspending flights and many airports are closing, preventing flights from leaving.”
