CAMPSITES have experienced a surge of bookings and enquiries in recent weeks as more people ditch holidays abroad for a break closer to home. And now, one bookings site has revealed that it has seen an increase of over 500 percent in bookings, but not for traditional camping.

Campsites, caravan and holiday parks have experienced a surge of interest over the last few weeks as the UK slowly eased lockdown rules. This week, Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed that campsites, caravan and holiday parks will be given the green light to reopen. The news means that Britons who have been forced to stay in their homes since March are allowed to finally go on a residential break.

Although camping is making a comeback, it seems that the idea of sleeping in a tent in the British countryside is not appealing to everyone.

One bookings site, which specialises in motorhomes and campervans, has witnessed a dramatic surge in bookings.

Camptoo offers the largest motorhome and campervan selection in the UK direct from vehicle owners.

Similar to Airbnb but for vehicles, owners rent out their campervans and motorhomes to people.

Ed Bassett, Country Manager at Camptoo said the company has experienced a huge increase in bookings.

He said: “We have experienced a 560 percent increase in bookings in the last week compared to three weeks ago.

“Now the UK government has announced campsites in England are reopening on July 4, thousands of people in the UK can travel by a motorhome or campervan this summer.

“We also expect campsites in Wales, Northern Ireland and Scotland to follow suit in due course and re-open for summer bookings.

“Monday 22 June was the highest number of UK bookings Camptoo has taken in 2020, which is more than double the amount of bookings taken during the same period in 2019.”

The site is also offering up affordable options, making it more friendly for a wider range of campers.

Vehicle hire can start from as little as £60 a night and renters can choose the vehicle size, location and type of vehicle to suit their needs.

The UK is home to some stunning roads and locations that are perfect for every type of traveller.

From beach breaks to countryside retreats, the UK has it all.

“The UK offers so many surprises,” added Mr Bassett.

“Theres really no need to go very far to enjoy award-winning beaches, fantastic food, picturesque villages, impressive forts, castles or spectacular scenery.

“Pair all of that with a trip that focuses on adventure, new experiences, and the opportunity to really bond with your fellow roadtrippers, and you have holiday memories that will last a lifetime.”

Camptoo have even compiled a list of some of the best routes in the UK which range from Scotland to Devon and Cornwall.

One of their recommendations is the Snake Pass route in the Pennines.

Although Manchester and Sheffield may not sound like the most picturesque of locations in the UK, the region. Is home to the Snake Pass which weaves through some of Englands most dazzling countryside.

However, Camptoo warned that it is not for the faint-hearted as it contains a sharp incline followed by a ling, scenic descent.

The route is sometimes closed during the winter so is best tackled during the summer months.
