JET2 has announced that it will be axing more holidays and flights for thousands of Britons hoping to go abroad this year.

The popular budget airline has pushed back its restart date from July 1 until July 15. Jet2 has also vowed that they will only be flying its customers to countries where quarantine rules do not apply. Some countries, such as France, are asking Britons who arrive in the country to quarantine for 14 days.

The carrier told Mirror Online that due to the “ongoing uncertainty caused by the coronavirus crisis” there will be less routes on sale and fewer flights over the summer.

The airline said it will not be operating flights to a variety of popular holiday destinations.

The shock move has infuriated Britons hoping for a holiday abroad with the airline.

Some of the destinations unavailable to eager Britons include Jersey, Mykonos, Santorini, Kalamata, Halkidiki, Lesbos, Nice and Verona.

Social media site Twitter has been inundated with angry tweets directed at the budget airline.

One user said: “#jet2 not happy as we’ve had our holiday cancelled for 18th Aug – to rebook is £400 more for the same date/deal.”

Another said: “Seems that Jet2 have cancelled all their [sic] Manchester – Kalamata flights until 2021.

“That will have a big knock on effect to the hotels etc in the Mani region.”

Another angry user said on the platform: “Does anyone know what the situation is with Jet2?

“I had a flight booked for 17th July that they now say is cancelled – but ALL THEIR FLIGHTS SEEM TO BE CANCELLED, and there seems to be no way of contacting them.”

A spokesperson for Jet2 said that there has been uncertainty around travel because of the coronavirus pandemic.

They said: “We will be operating a revised programme for Summer 20, and we are looking forward to taking customers on our award-winning flights and package holidays.

“Because of the ongoing uncertainty caused by the Coronavirus crisis, there is a reduction in the number of routes on sale and a lower frequency of services for Summer 20.

“We will not be operating flights and holidays to Jersey, Mykonos, Santorini, Kalamata, Halkidiki, Lesbos, Nice and Verona this summer, and there are some other reductions taking place across our nine UK bases.

“We are also in the process of making some changes to our schedules.”

Jet2 also said that they are hoping for more information regarding “air bridges” so that their customers can begin planning their holidays.

They added: “We will be communicating details of our full Summer 20 programme very soon.

“We will only take customers to destinations that are quarantine-free, so we ask the Government to provide urgent clarity over air bridges so that customers can plan their holidays.”

An air bridge, also known as an air corridor, is a bilateral travel agreement between the UK and another country which means people would not need to quarantine when they arrive in the other country, or when they return home.
