Weight loss is not easy but looking to those who have slimmed down can be a good way to get inspiration. How did one woman shed more than one stone?
The slimmer appeared tonight on the Channel 4 show How To Lose Weight Well.
The programme followed those hoping to lose weight as they embarked on a fitness journey.
Each dieter who took part in the show used a different diet plan with some being more successful than others.
While on the programme, slimmer Joan completed a six week challenge to try and lose excess weight.
At the beginning, she weighed in at 15st 13lb and explained her biggest downfall was snacking.
“My food weakness would be crisps,” Joan said, “I’d just eat bags and bags of [crisps].”
The dieter explained she wanted to lose weight and get healthier after putting on weight during the coronavirus lockdown.
What diet did she use?
Joan followed the “smart” diet which used technology to help her eat more healthily.
Those who follow the plan do not need to count how many calories they are eating.
However, technology is used to help monitor weight loss and keep the dieter accountable.
Joan was given a smart watch and encouraged to stay active and keep track of how many steps she was doing.
The slimmer also used smart scales that connected to her phone to help her keep on top of her weight.
She used the Second Nature app, a tracking programme which helps dieter change unhealthy habits and lose weight.
Joan also regularly checked in with a dietician to ensure she was eating healthy foods.
While the plan was low in carbs, she was allowed to eat complex carbs such as brown rice, beans and pulses and vegetables.
Joan stuck to eating just three healthy meals each day as she tried to slim down.
By the end of the six week period, she had shed 1st 5lb and weighed in at a healthier 14st 8lb.
“I’m very happy with the results, I would never have dreamed I could lose 1st 5lb in six weeks,” Joan added.
“I would 100 percent recommend this diet to anyone.”
