Londoners are in for a soaking as Storm Wanda is set to lash the capital with rain and drizzle over the coming days.

It comes as the Met Office has issued flood warnings in parts of the UK as remnants of the tropical storm drift in from the Atlantic.

Annie Shuttleworth, a forecaster for the Met Office, said: “There will be a chilly start on Monday morning for London and much of the UK, we will see sunny spells but the skies will be cloudy by afternoon.

“It will be cloudy overnight – Tuesday will be milder to start with but then we could see some light rain and drizzly stuff late afternoon and into the evening. Wednesday will be more rain and a patchy, cloudy in morning and brighter afternoon.”

The Met Office has warned that Storm Wanda “could lead to rainfall in some places, and potentially some weather warnings”. However, it does add that the “timing and track of the system is still uncertain”.

It added: “There has been some speculation around the impact, if any, Tropical Storm Wanda may have on the weather here in the UK. Tropical Storm Wanda is currently over the mid-Atlantic Ocean and will move north eastwards during the course of the weekend.

“On Sunday night Wanda is expected to weaken and be downgraded to a non-tropical feature, and what is left of this storm will become embedded within a larger Atlantic frontal zone. This frontal zone moves across the UK on Tuesday and Wednesday.”

The capital will experience highs of 13C on Monday with the mercury falling to 6C at night. Tuesday will see highs of 15C and lows of 8C, with a wet and patchy Wednesday bringing with it 14C highs and 6C lows.

It comes as torrential rain hit London last week after huge floods sparked a major incident in Scotland.

Londoners were forced to commute in puffy jackets as the capital experienced three days of heavy rain and yellow weather warnings.
