SAJID JAVID raged at a group of Antifa protesters screaming “f*** the Police” as they marched down Whitehall to protest the violent death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

Sajid Javid blasted a group of protesters harassing Police officers guarding Downing Street as they protested the death of George Floyd. Spontaneous demonstrations have erupted across the US over the past week and hundreds of Britons took to the street on Sunday to show their solidarity to the Afro-American community. But the former Chancellor slammed a group of protesters as they gathered outside Downing Street while marching down Whitehall while screaming “f*** the Police.”

Commenting on video of the protest, Ms Javid wrote on Twitter: “Very sad to see.

“This is the same police that keeps you and your family safe. The ones that run towards danger when you run away.

“Show some goddamn respect.”

Hundreds broke lockdown restrictions on Sunday to march from Trafalgar Square to the US Embassy in Battersea demanding justice for George Floyd.

Mr Floyd died in Police custody on May 25 after warning he “can’t breathe” as a member of the Minneapolis Police held a knee over his neck for an estimated eight minutes.

Woody Johnson, the US Ambassador to the UK, wrote on Twitter: “Freedom of Speech and Assembly are cornerstones of a healthy democracy.

“I thank those peacefully making their views heard today outside the US Embassy in London and the Met police for ensuring everyones safety.”

Several hundred protesters also staged a rally outside the U.S. Embassy in Berlin, holding up posters saying “Justice for George Floyd”, “Stop killing us” and “Who’s next”.

Riots have erupted across the United States, with some cities being forced to impose a curfew in a bid to contain the protest.

A former Minneapolis Police officer, who was sacked following the death of George Floyd, on Friday was charged with third-degree murder.

The man was filmed holding his knee on Mr Floyd’s neck as the 46-year-old repeatedly warned he “can’t breathe”.

Three other policemen were filmed at the scene and protesters have demanded they too face charges.

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison on Sunday said his office accepts responsibility.

Mr Ellison said in a press conference: “It with a large degree of humility and great seriousness, I accept for my office the responsibility for leadership on this critical case involving the killing of George Floyd.

“We are going to bring to bear all the resources necessary to achieve justice in this case.”

Minneapolis Police Chief Medaria Arredondo also said the department had a responsibility towards Mr Floyd and his family, suggesting all officers involved should face the consequence of their actions.

Mr Arredondo said: “Mr Floyd died in our hands and so I see that as being complicit.

“Silence and inaction, you’re complicit. If there was one solitary voice that would have intervened. That’s what I would have hoped for.”
