GERMS: The dirtiest part of a plane has been revealed
Flight cabins and airports will be crawling with thousands if not millions of germs.
When it comes down to cleanliness, planes have long been known to hide a number of secrets.
According to a shocking new study by insurance.quotes.com, researchers conducted swab tests on three airlines and at three major airports, and what they found was disgusting.
Unsurprisingly, the worst spot on the plane was the flush button on the toilet, which had over 95,000 germ colony-firing units (CFUs).

The second filthiest part of a plane was the tray table, with 11.595 CFUs, followed by seat buckles with 1,116 CFUs.
The findings also discovered that one-third of the bacteria on the tray table were bacillus, which can cause diseases in humans, as well as digestion problems.
To compare, an average of 172 CFUs are found on the toilet seat.

When it came down to airports, the study found the dirtiest spot was the self check-in screens, which contained 253,847 CFUs.
In second place was the gate bench armrests with 21,630 CFUs and third was the water fountain buttons (19,181 CFUs).
One form of bacteria found in the swab tests were Gram-positive cocci, which can cause pneumonia, sinus infections and food poisoning.

The website read: “Germs are everywhere and unavoidable, but certain surfaces are clearly risker than others.
“Carry sanitiser with you when travelling or one of the millions of germs you can come in contact with may have you exchanging vacation days for sick days.”
At least 44% of people believe sickly germs are recycled through a plane’s cabin air system.
