A recent Snapchat update sparked fury among its users after bringing huge changes to the app.

Now the ferocity of Snapchatters’ rage has been exposed in a study which examined tweets about the new software written by more than 500,000 people.

Newton Insight, a social media analysis firm, analysed 667,000 posts posted by 537,000 Twitterers between February 5 and 19 using its EmotIQ technology, which works out the emotion expressed in a tweet.

It found that 83% of people ‘expressed at least one negative emotion during this time’.

Almost half of all tweets expressed anger, whilst 11% of the messages showed evidence of disgust.

Bizarrely, 1% of the tweets showed ‘fear’ – which means 5,370 people are actually scared of the new update.

Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel said users ‘just need time to get used to it’.

But it’s still feared that people who aren’t happy with the update will ditch Snapchat.

David Barrowcliff, research director, asked: ‘Will users acquiesce to the changes or rebel?’

Citigroup has already asked itself this question and has downgraded Snapchat’s stock over fears the update will prompt users to stop using the app.
