Liam Payne will perform for the Queen and Meghan Markle at the Commonwealth Service – their first public appearance together.
Meghan, who is engaged to Prince Harry, hasn’t been seen publicly with the Queen, but met her for the first time last year.
The event will celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s ‘lifetime commitment to the Commonwealth’ and Princes Charles, William and Harry will also be attending the Westminster Abbey church service.
Following in the footsteps of Ellie Goulding, former One Direction star Liam’s performance is expected to coincide with the release of his debut album later this year.
But if you ask us, his singles, Strip That Down and Bedroom Floor, don’t seem like something the Queen would be into…
The 24-year-old met the Queen in 2017 for the Young Leaders Awards, and described it as an ‘honour’.
At the time, Liam said. “An absolute honour to meet the Queen today on such a fantastic occasion.
“Privileged to share the room with such inspirational @queensyoungleaders, hear their stories and how they are helping to rebuild and preserve a sometimes broken world.”
Ellie Goulding is among the stars to have previously performed at the event.
Held on 12 March, the Commonwealth service will cover how the Commonwealth can come together to tackle global challenges, and comes ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) which will be held in London in April.
