When you think of places to stay on holiday, churches aren’t really your first thought.

And why would they? They’re usually reserved for quite serious, religious things like worshiping, getting hitched, and funerals.

But they are also truly marvelous pieces of architecture, complete with ornate ceilings and huge rooms.

So, naturally, they make amazing places for holiday rentals.

Holiday rental search engine Hometogo released some of the stunning properties you could whiz off to this Easter break, especially if you’re a big group as some of these houses up to eight people:

High Haven Church (Little Haven, Wales)

High Haven is an eleventh-century church in Little Haven, Wales, which has been transformed into a chic and contemporary new model.

It’s complete with a refurbished altar now part of the chapel’s trendy kitchen.

Its roof and bell tower hint at its original purpose, and the original nave and Romanesque font inside nod to the history of the small church.

Medieval windows also bring light into the bedrooms, furnished with Scandi-inspired decor.

Although it’s £122 per night, it sleeps eight people which would be £15.25 per person, not bad for a whole church to yourself.

Greystead Old Church (Greystead, England)

From outside the Greystead Old church, it might be hard to tell that inside the premises sits a luxury home, with warm tones and stylish decor.

In Bellingham, some pretty cool renovation work has injected new life into the Greystead Old Rectory.

Regular and stain glass windows pour light into the upside-down layout home; the living areas are upstairs with all four bedrooms downstairs.

This church also sleeps eight and costs £176, costing £22 per person if you fill the full occupancy.

La Torre Church (Apulia, Italy)

Dating back to 1622, La Torre sits comfortably among the rolling vineyards of Puglia in Italy.

The modern furnishings complement the original stonework and layout. You can enjoy majestic views of the Italian countryside visible from the bedrooms, both of which are ensuite.

Its secluded position ensures peace and privacy, making La Torre the ideal romantic destination for those tying the knot in another kind of church. For those bringing the kids, the 10-metre pool is sure to be a hit.

Who knew a church could be so homely? It accommodates five people and is £165 a night (£35 per person)

Red Wing Church (Red Wing, Minnesota, USA)

The ancestral ties between Minnesota and Norway are visible in the town of Red Wing.

The Church House is a Norwegian Lutheran place of worship that dates back to the 1880s.

A grand dining table occupies the raised space where baptisms once took place, and where the congregation once assembled is now a living space – complete with a pool table and ping pong.

If you want the all-American living, it’ll cost £250, and sleeps eight, at £31.25 per person.

Stylish Church (Kelso, Scotland)

This five-bedroom church conversion stands proudly on the Scottish Borders, close to the historical Kelso Abbey.

Once a place of reflection and spirituality, the church is now the perfect place for a fun-fuelled group trip.

A large kitchen, living area and pool table occupy the interior.

The dining area pays tribute to the building’s historical past, with its original pews, large candles and simple wooden table contrasting the church’s otherwise modern interior.

And if you love home comforts, you’ll be delighted to know all four bedrooms are ensuite and have large bathtubs.

It costs £218, sleeps 12 and is £18.20 per person.

With its narrow arched windows and dark grey stonework, there’s something quite gothic about St. Ninian’s Church, in the Scottish town of Crieff.

The church’s original exposed features work in harmony with comfortable modern furnishings.

A cleverly crafted steel staircase paves the way to an enchanting, hidden living area at the top of the church tower, complete with its own telescope.

Downstairs, you’ll find a state of the art cinema room. And there’s an extra amenity thrown in as the owners promise to meet and greet you, offering a guided tour on arrival.

The nightly price is £213, sleeps six, at £35.50 per person.

The Old Chapel (Slad, England)

The Cotswold scenery goes perfectly well with the picturesque views of the Old Chapel, a stunning converted church close to the town of Stroud.

As a few tombstones and a bench greet you on arrival, the church’s contemporary interior will take you by surprise.

Its wooden floors, sleek leather furnishings and crisp white walls give this holiday home extra fancy vibes, costing £188, accommodating ten people which would cost £18.80 per person.
