These GIFs are returning crumbled ancient ruins back to their former glory

When you go on holiday to countries like Egypt, Crypus or Greece, chances are that you want to take in a bit of local ancient history.

After all, these are the civilisations which made the world the way it is today.

So you trot along to sites of famous temples and monuments only to be confronted by a stack of ruins. Impressive, obviously, but hard to think of as cultural epicentres of great discussion, worship and sometimes sacrifice.

If only you could see what these amazing feats of architecture would have looked like a thousand years ago.

Well now, you can – kind of.

Expedia, marketing agency Neomam Studios and Maja Wronska and Przemek Sobiecki from architecture visualisation firm This Is Render have all teamed up to have a go resurrecting ruins using 3D imagery and animation.

In GIF-form, theyve rebuilt roofs, columns and porticos – resorting spaces to their original glory:
