EXOTIC: Brits might get more bang for their buck by going further afield this year

Sterling has had a turbulent time since the Brexit vote on June 23 2016.

Since the referendum, the pound to euro exchange rate has plummeted, making European holidays more expensive for Brits.

Last summer the exchange rate hovered around €1.14 to the pound and this year it is even lower at around the €1.12 mark.

This means holidays to Brit favourites like Spain, France and Portugal are more expensive than ever.

So, what is the best way to bag a bargain break this year?

Speaking exclusively to the Daily Star Online, Retail Director at No1 Currency, Simon Phillips said: “If youre yet to book a holiday, you could consider going somewhere further afield this year where your pound will stretch further.”

Being flexible with your destination is one of the best ways to make big savings on family holidays.

Simon suggests heading to destinations like Hungry and Bulgaria, because they dont use the euro.

Morocco is a great year-round destination as temperatures remain high annually.

It is only a few hours flight from the UK and the capital Marrakesh is popular with Brits.

Thailand is one of the most popular exotic destination for Brits and constantly features highly on Bucket Lists.

Flights to get there might be a little more expensive, but you will need minimum spending money while youre there.

Meals can cost as little as £1-£2 and accommodation rates are very reasonable.

3. Poland

Just a four-hour flight from the UK, Poland is becoming an increasingly popular destination, with cities like Krakow and Warsaw putting it on the map.

Food, drink and accommodation are all delightfully cheap in the eastern European country.
