The woman filmed hitting a man who groped her at a festival has said it was her right to defend herself.

Madeline Anello-Kitzmiller, 20, has spoken out to say that women should be able to go out topless without fear of being groped by random men.

For the New Year’s Eve festival Rhythm & Vines, she had covered her chest with glitter and attached silver flowers to her nipples.

Madeline, from Auckland in New Zealand, was walking with her friend Kiri-Ann Hatfield when a man crept up behind her and grabbed her breast.

In response, the pair marched back up to him, threw a drink in his face and started slapping him.

The revenge attack, captured on video by Giann Reece, quickly went viral.

‘I stand by my actions and hope that I’ve inspired women to feel comfortable in their bodies, no matter how they look, and to stick up for themselves when anybody says otherwise or tries to deny you the right to protect your own body,’ she told the Daily Mail.

‘He grabbed my breast. I hit him. There was a lot of built up anger coming from harassment throughout the day. This happens everywhere, not just New Zealand.’

She added that even on the previous day, when she had been wearing a t-shirt, she was abused by both male and female attendees.

‘In the end, we are all born naked, and each human is uniquely similar to the next in that we all have a naked body,’ she added.

‘You don’t look at yourself in the shower and say, “ew, disgusting”, right? So why should anybody say that to anybody else? A human’s body is their own, and nobody has the right to touch you without your consent, regardless of what they’re wearing or the lack thereof.’
