A babysitter has been sentenced to 11 years in prison for killing a two-year-old she was supposed to be looking after.

Marley Milner was in the care of Allison Nething when he sustained a number of injuries at a home in Mansfield, Ohio, on April 5 2016.

The toddler was taken to OhioHealth Mansfield hospital where she died. Doctors said the cause of death was blunt force head trauma.

Richland County prosecutor Gary Bishop told the court the child’s injuries must have been caused by an ‘extremely massive blow to her head’, reports the Richland Source.

If Marley had lived, she would have almost definitely been wheelchair-bound, blind and unable to eat by herself.

Bishop said: ‘All the experts agree, Marley became almost immediately unconscious and never regained consciousness.

‘When this injury was inflicted, she was basically killed at that time. So she went from being an active, alert, playful, loving two-and-a-half-year-old little girl to dead in the space of an afternoon, really in the space of a few minute.’

Nething, 20, was initially charged with murder and two counts of felony endangering children.

But she pleaded guilty in a deal to a charge of involuntary manslaughter, a felony of the first degree.

It meant she must serve 11 years without parole.

Marley’s family, however, say this is too soft a sentence.

Her aunt, Sarah Crabtree, said: ‘She would’ve turned four-years-old in December.

‘I count every second that she’s gone. Each day passes by excruciatingly slow. It feels like she’s been gone for eternity. I constantly feel punished by Allison walking freely. Allison has been given so much privilege and freedom for being guilty of murder.

‘The nightmares of what Allison has done to Marley will haunt me forever. What Allison has caused cannot be fixed.’
