An 11-year-old girl was left terrified after a man repeatedly tried to cut off her hijab in Toronto, Canada.
Khawlah Noman was walking to school with her brother when a man tried to forcibly remove her head covering with scissors twice in the space of just 10 minutes.

She said that she felt someone tug her hood from her winter coat down and hack at her light blue scarf with a pair of scissors.
When she turned around, the assailant was smiling at her.
‘I felt really scared and confused. I didn’t feel comfortable about what was going on,’ she said.
She told police he was a young Asian male with a moustache and glasses.

Khawlah and her 10-year-old brother, Mohammed, ran away from the man to join a group of children so they would not be alone with him, but became separated at the traffic lights.
Mohammed said he then watched on horrified as he saw the man approaching his sister again with the scissors – as he was stuck on the other side of the road waiting for the traffic lights.
When they got to school they found that her hijab had a 30cm cut in at from the bottom.
According to Toronto publication, The Star, Khawlah’s blue hijab has been taken by police as evidence and a friend loaned her a white one to wear.
The brave girl had a message for her attacker and said: ‘What you’re doing is very wrong, you should stop doing this. I’m a kid.’

Their mother, Samia Samad, said she cannot understand why someone would do something like this.
She said: ‘It’s just not Canada. I’m frustrated and I’m angry, but I do believe in peace in Canada. I am so proud to be a Canadian, and I want to give (the attacker) the same message.’
Canada’s Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, tweeted his support for Kwalah on Friday.
My heart goes out to Khawlah Noman following this morning’s cowardly attack on her in Toronto. Canada is an open and welcoming country, and incidents like this cannot be tolerated.

Toronto police are treating the incident as a hate crime but have yet to make any arrests.

The attack came as Canada approaches the first anniversary at Quebec City Mosque which left six worshippers dead and 18 injured.
A French-Canadian student was arrested and charged for the massacre on January 29th.
