A Southern California law firm employee shot and killed two of his colleagues and then turned the gun on himself, police have said.
Officers confirmed a third man had also been wounded at the office in Long Beach yesterday, shortly before 2:30pm.
The victim managed to survive and drove himself to hospital, where he is in a stable condition.
The unnamed gunman was already dead when police arrived so there was no ‘active shooter’ situation and a swat team did not have to engage anyone.
‘This incident was workplace violence,’ Long Beach police Sgt. Brad Johnson said.
Video showed people running from a two-story office building shouting about a shooting inside.
Joy Wilson, who lives in the area, described seeing around dozen people fleeing the scene.
She told the Los Angeles Times ‘they were definitely panicking’.
Long Beach Mayor Robert Garcia added: ‘The police are doing an active investigation. They are talking to folks that were obviously there and folks affiliated with both the victims and the shooter.
‘All of us are sad and thinking about the victims and families involved.’
The building in Long Beach is home to three law firms, but police did not reveal the office where the shooting occurred.
Police are continuing to investigate and confirmed they had recovered a weapon at the scene.
