Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two presenter Zoe Ball has revealed her plans to pay a touching tribute to her late partner, Billy Yates.
Opening up Zoe, 40, explained she will be taking on a Sport Relief fitness challenge to raise awareness of mental health, after cameraman Billy took his own life last May, aged 40.
During an appearance on The One Show, the mum-of-two explained she will embark on a gruelling cycle ride later this year to raise money. She said, “One of the things that Sport Relief is supporting this year is mental health. And that’s very close to my heart.
“I think a lot of people know that my boyfriend struggled with depression, and he died last year. Billy, he worked on this show.”
“After he died, I was left with lots of questions… Most people you meet are going to have been touched by this subject. Mental health resources are under huge pressure. I think, a lot of people aren’t necessarily [getting] the right help as quickly as they could.”
As well as the cycling challenge, Zoe explained she will also be filming a documentary.
She continued, “I am going to visit some projects that funded by Comic Relief that are helping people find a way to move forward, and hopefully meet some families who have gone through what myself and Billy’s family have gone through, and ask the questions about what are we doing, how are are we helping, and where can we turn for help? What should loved ones be doing?”
“There’s a lot of subjects here so I’m going to go out and visit these projects, see the work that’s being done, and encourage people to get involved. That’s why I’m doing it.”
Zoe also joked that Davina McCall – who previously completed a gruelling Sports Relief challenge of her own – has been in touch with some ‘top tips’ on looking after ‘undercarriages’.
Good luck, Zoe!
Sport Relief is taking place from the 17th – 23rd March
