A teenager who stubbed a cigarette butt on her ex-boyfriend’s face says he dared her to do it, a court has heard.

The victim suffered a burn mark to his cheek after he passed the lit cigarette to her and encouraged her to assault him.

Alys Senior, 19, a mother-of-one, pleaded guilty to a charge of assault at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court.

The 19-year-old and the victim, who was the father of her child, were arguing on New Street in Huddersfield town centre when the incident happened on September 16 last year.

Jill Seddon, prosecuting, said that his version of events was that she told him that he was not a good dad before grabbing the cigarette from his hand.

He said she then shoved this into his cheek and spat in his face.

Senior, from Croftlands in Newsome, told police: ‘He handed the cigarette to me and goaded me to stub it out on his face, which I did.’

She added that she felt angry and frustrated at the time.

Carl Kingsley, mitigating, told the court that his client’s ex was in fact the aggressor, running over to try and assault her and knocking his own mother to the ground in the process.

He said: ‘He then began goading her to assault him, handed her the cigarette and asked her to stub it out on his face.

‘She did and that’s why she’s here today. She feels he’s manufactured this situation.’

District Judge Michael Fanning told Senior, who had no previous convictions, that he was satisfied that contact between her and her ex was ‘fleeting with no significant injuries.’

He fined her £85 and ordered her to pay £85 court costs as well as £30 court charge.
