Gwilym Pugh was a very, very different man 12 years ago. Working in insurance and weighing 20 stone, Gwilym’s life was not quite what he had hoped.

“At that time I was pretty overweight, working 12 hours a day, plagued with injuries which meant I couldn’t train at all,” he told Wales Online.

“The business was doing okay, but I decided I needed to get my life in order and wanted to get healthy again.”

So today has been an absolute whirlwind!! I woke up with a banging hangover after the @vo5 @nmemagazine awards to news the article about my personal journey has pretty much gone viral around the world ? I’m so incredibly grateful to everyone commenting kind words and supporting me, I think it’s easy to criticise people, especially online, but it’s 2018 and we need to start lifting each other up! Literally anything is possible, even if you’re not aware of it yet. . . PS.. huge thank you to @instagram for making my journey possible!! . . . . . . . #beforeandafter #transformation #gingerbeard #weightloss #fatlossjourney #redhead #gingerhair #gingerman #igtransformation @instagram

Gwilym’s transformation caught the attention of AMCK modelling agency, and he was spotted while shopping in Topman.

Talking to Insider he revealed that there was a ‘pivotal moment’ in his life where everything changed.

“I thought that if I didn’t change my habits, my quality of life would keep deteriorating and I couldn’t accept that.”

Blue steel…. ? Who did it best? ? With @davidbeckham’s for the launch of @house99 last week at @harveynicholsmen. Scroll across for few more photos from the evening! . . . . . #BlueSteel #house99 #hometoyournextlook #davidbeckham #futbolmiami #harveynichols #beckham #beardstyle #mensstyle #ad

He has now worked for the likes of VO5, Esprit, Diesel, and now David Beckham’s hair company House 99.

It seems like the sky is the limit!

His luscious beard is a result of starting a folk band with friends, and being advised to grow a beard by a barber. His music career was also very helpful in allowing him to shed the pounds.

“It was the best thing for my health as I stopped sitting for 9-10 hours a day.”

In terms of how he keeps himself healthy, Gwilym keeps it simple.

“I always keep an eye on my steps and aim for a minimum amount every day averaging about 15,000 per day. Bear in mind the weight loss took around four to five years from my biggest to leanest. Walking and generally trying to be active in some way throughout every day has been key.”

While he is appreciative of his new life, Gwilym has remained humble about the whole thing – with the help of his girlfriend.

“Having worked in finance for years, the opportunity to work with creative people and travel around the world is amazing. But you forget how nuts it is, it all becomes normal. I think I’m lucky I got into this profession at the age that I did. I try not to get caught up in it all and my girlfriend helps a great deal wit that.”
