Going on a UK holiday is the perfect opportunity to explore the great British outdoors. Activities including cycling, surfing and rafting are popular with Britons who wish to explore the outdoors on their holidays.

The best places for an outdoorsy holiday have been named by Sweetcombe Cottage Holidays.

From Cumbria to Manchester, the country’s top holiday destinations were ranked by the number of outdoorsy activities they offered holidaymakers.

Coming top was Hampshire.

With 140 miles of walking trails in the New Forest National Park and horse riding at South Downs National Park, Hampshire offers plenty of opportunities to get outside and explore.

In second place was Surrey.

Surrey has many golf courses for Britons in search of a sporty activity while in the area.

And the Surrey Hills were found to be a fantastic place to go on a cycling adventure.

In third place was Greater Manchester.

The surprise of the list, Greater Manchester is packed with running and cycling tours.

The area also has moorland and woodland parks to explore, with activities such as tennis, climbing and horse riding never far away.

In fourth place was Kent.

Water activities are what Kent does best, with surfing, diving and paddle boarding popular pastimes.

For a walk, the Cliffs of Dover can’t be missed.

Rounding up the top five was North Yorkshire.

England’s largest county is 40 percent national parks.

Walking and hiking are popular activities to explore the beautiful landscape.

Health and fitness expert, Shaf Mohammed from KitFit said: “After being cooped inside since 2020, the idea of getting away and being active is a breath of fresh air.”

The rest of the list named London, Devon, Cumbria, West Yorkshire and Somerset as great outdoorsy staycation spots.

Holidaymakers have been embracing outdoorsy activities all over the country, with last summer seeing many heading on active holidays at beauty spots such as the Lake District.

While a holiday is a perfect opportunity to relax and enjoy the finer things in life, getting active and making the most of the beautiful outdoors are also high on the list of priorities for many holidaymakers.
