Boris Johnson has vowed he will not delay Brexit under any circumstances.

In an unexpected statement outside 10 Downing Street this evening, he told the country: There are no circumstances in which I will ask Brussels to delay. We are leaving on October 31, no ifs, no buts.

He said potential rebels want to cut the legs off the governments negotiating position.

I dont want an election; you dont want an election, he said.

He said he did not believe MPs would vote with Jeremy Corbyn for yet another pointless delay, but said that if they did they would make any further negotiations impossible.

I say, to show our friends in Brussels that we are united, MPs should vote with the government against Corbyns pointless delay.

If this is not granted, and a new agreement with the EU is not agreed by October 19, the Bill aims to ensure that the UK doesnt leave for three months.

The prime minister would have to request an extension of Article 50 until January 31 2020.

Mr Johnson had to contend with the noise of protesters at the gates of Downing Street as he delivered his statement, with people yelling Stop the coup.

Plainly obvious from that statement that Johnson has no plan to get a deal. If MPs blink tomorrow, he will drive the UK off the no deal cliff on 31 October. He must not get away with it.

He claimed the chances of a Brexit deal are rising and he was encouraged by the progress we are making with Brussels.

Shadow Brexit secretary Keir Starmer said the rebel bill could be Parliaments last chance to stop a reckless and damaging no-deal Brexit.
