London froze assets of Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps and Basij officials.

The British government on Monday imposed new sanctions against Iranian officials, including individuals affiliated with the pro-government Basij forces in Tehran, including asset freezes and travel bans on British soil.

UK Had Imposed New Sanctions

London also said in a statement posted on the government’s website that the UK had imposed new sanctions on regime officials in Iran, including Deputy Attorney General Ahmad Fazelian.

The sanctions were announced along with unanimous condemnations from the European Union and the United States, in response to “the horrific violence carried out by the Iranian regime against its people, including the execution of the Iranian-British citizen Ali Reza Akbari”.

Iran last week executed Akbari, a former deputy defense minister, accused of “espionage for the benefit of British intelligence”.

In this context, the British sanctions published today target Kiyumars Heidari, Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Ground Forces, Hossein Nejat, Deputy Commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, and Salar Abnoush, Deputy Commander of the Basij Forces.

In this context, the statement quotes Foreign Secretary James Cleverly as saying that those hit with sanctions today are “figures in the judiciary who use the death penalty for political purposes. .”

He added that the British government had imposed “50 new sanctions linked to human rights abuses in Iran since the murder of young Mahsa Amini.”

These sanctions impose an asset freeze and a travel ban on sanctioned persons in the United Kingdom.

Earlier in the day, the European Union decided to impose new sanctions on Iranian officials “suspected of being involved in the crackdown on protesters” during protests that erupted in Iran in mid-September at the following the death in police custody of the young Mahsa Amini.
